Theoretical and Computational Integration of Dynamic Omics

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in omics integration, systems medicine and the study of dynamical complex systems in the Systems Biology Division at the institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering at Michigan State University, in the lab of Dr. George Mias, https://georgemias.org (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). The postdoctoral associate will participate on a new project on developing algorithms to monitor astronaut health. The project aims at developing new methodology from graph/network theory, complex systems and time series analysis to monitor individual personnel health. Candidates should have a strong background in mathematical as well as computational methods, (programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Python, Java, javascript - Mathematica would also be advantageous), and statistical methodology.

This is an interdisciplinary research position, for quantitative biological research and candidates with a wide variety of quantitative backgrounds will be considered [biology background is not required but a basic knowledge of genetics would be advantageous]. Relevant areas for the Ph.D. are Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Genomics, and Computational or Systems Biology. Applicants for the position should have a track record of published research commensurate with their field and experience. A Ph.D. degree is required for commencing this position; Ph.D. candidates who can provide evidence of dissertation defense dates on or before the start date will also be considered. The successful candidate will have excellent organization and communication skills, collaborative spirit and strong personal motivation.
