Postdoctoral fellowship positions in cancer biology at UCSF

The Solomon Laboratory at UCSF (https://solomonlab.ucsf.edu) is seeking highly motivated postdoctoral research fellows to lead NIH-funded studies examining the role of the cohesin complex in cancer pathogenesis and other translational research projects aimed at deciphering the molecular mechanisms by which novel genetic discoveries in human tumors drive oncogenesis.  Specific projects focus on the mechanisms by which the cohesin subunit STAG2 controls replication fork procession and DNA repair, as well as studying the mechanisms by which STAG2 controls mammalian development using a newly developed conditional knockout mouse.  Another ongoing study is examining the role of the TRAF7 gene in the pathogenesis of mesotheliomas and meningiomas, tumors in which mutations in this ubiquitin ligase gene are frequent.  We are fundamentally interested in understanding why certain oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes are altered in specific tumor types to drive oncogenesis (for example, why STAG2 mutations are common in glioblastoma, urothelial carcinoma, and Ewing sarcoma but not renal cell carcinoma or osteosarcoma).  Our prior studies have been featured in Science, Nature Genetics, Nature Communications, Cancer Research, Journal of Cell Biology, Modern Pathology, Acta Neuropathologica, and other high-impact journals.

Requirements:

Candidates should possess a Ph.D. and/or M.D.  A background in cell biology or cancer biology research is preferred.  Experience with techniques including cell culture, flow cytometry, DNA cloning, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, CRISPR gene editing, and expression microarray or RNA-seq analysis are desirable. Excellent communication and writing skills are essential.  Fluency in English required.  Applicants should be US citizens, permanent residents, or must currently hold a valid US work visa.
