Required/Preferred Education, Experience, Skills:
Required education, experience and skills
Applicants must have a PhD/DrPH/ScD in nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, public health nutrition, public health, epidemiology or related fields; as well as a record of original, first-author, manuscripts in one or more of these areas. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong quantitative/analytical research skills, experience using STATA, SPSS, SAS, or R for both data management and analysis, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team with collaborators.


Preferred education, experience and skills
In addition, formal training is preferred in some combination of dietary assessment and analysis, systematic reviews/ meta-analyses, health indicators/metrics related to malnutrition, modeling diet-disease burdens, and/or epidemiology.


Duties & Responsibilities:
An outstanding candidate is sought to work on the development of novel metrics to qualify the healthfulness of food that will generate a “Healthy Food Index”. The postdoctoral fellow will work with the principal investigators, other project faculty, the Nutrition Advisory Committee and Tufts Nutrition Council and the rest of the research team to help achieve the project aim. She or he will focus on identifying, retrieving, and assessing key novel parameters for assessing food healthfulness; developing criteria and scoring algorithms for each of the metrics to be selected and for the overall dashboard of metrics; extracting and processing relevant results; preparing and managing the central database that will host project-specific information and results; contributing to dissemination efforts, including development of research content for a project-specific dedicated website; and leading of analyses, abstract preparation and presentation, and manuscript writing. The publication of research results in high-quality journals and national and international conferences is expected.


The mentoring, research program, and training will be under the direction of Dr. Renata Micha, Research Associate Professor (https://nutrition.tufts.edu/profile/faculty/renata-micha); and Professor, Dr. Jeffrey Blumberg (https://nutrition.tufts.edu/profile/faculty/jeffrey-blumberg). Under their leadership, the post-doctoral fellow will also work with a multi-disciplinary team including public health experts, medical doctors, nutritionists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians/modelers, and decision scientists, and will also have the opportunity to interface with international experts and stakeholders. Major emphasis will be placed on leading original analyses and manuscripts, career development, and transition toward an independent research career. In addition to this project, candidates will have the opportunity to participate in additional research given their experience, interests and available time, within the larger research team of Dean Dariush Mozaffarian. Examples may include collaborating on the development of a global dietary database (http://www.globaldietarydatabase.org) or conducting pooled epidemiological analyses (http://force.nutrition.tufts.edu).


This position is anticipated to be for 1 year, with potential extension conditional on funding and performance. The ability to work in the US is required in order to apply for this position.
