esponsibilities

The Shipman Lab at the Gladstone Institutes is seeking Postdoctoral Scholars to join our team. We develop molecular biotechnology and use it to expand our knowledge of complex systems, such as the brain, and to seek treatments for developmental, neuropsychiatric, and degenerative disease.

Particular areas of interest for postdoctoral projects are:

  • Studying the acquisition of cell fate in developing tissues by engineering living cells to log transcriptional data in real time by writing into their DNA (Shipman et al. Science 2016, Shipman et al. Nature 2017).
  • Directing the acquisition of neuronal cell fates through transcription factor expression (Busskamp et al. MSB 2014) and the implementation of time-regulated synthetic gene circuits in mammalian cells, with the larger goal of building defined neural circuits from human iPS cells to study synaptic formation (Shipman et al. Nature Neuroscience 2011, Shipman et al. Neuron2012).

Qualifications

The candidate must possess a PhD or MD/PhD (or be soon to finish). Should be strongly motivated, work well on a team, and have an outstanding record of research productivity. Preference is for a candidate with deep technical skills in one or a combination of the following areas: molecular biology (library design, multiplexed sequencing, and analysis), cell culture (human stem/iPS cells), and bioinformatics.

Please send a cover letter describing past research accomplishments and future interests, CV, and a list of three references by email to seth.shipman@gladston.ucsf.edu.
