Responsibilities
The Clinical Laboratory Senior Research Scientist is responsible providing leadership and direction for all GO scientists within the clinical R&D laboratory. This position will support ongoing clinical studies by planning, organizing and conducting laboratory experiments as well as thoroughly documenting and preparing laboratory data for statistical analysis in support of clinical trials. In addition, the Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for identifying and applying new technologies and innovations to update the capabilities of the clinical laboratory.

Technical Responsibilities:

The following are functions, duties or tasks that are performed independently and able to coach/train other peers by a Senior Research Scientist at the R2 Job Level:
  • Provide technical direction, motivation, and leadership to ensure the success of all associates on the team through trust and open communication.
  • Establish communication throughout the organization to determine project requirements, relay execution of timelines and to facilitate scheduling of key study activities.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work within FD GO organization to process clinical samples and to execute required analyses within study timelines.
  • Participate as an active member on study/project teams and as a liaison with other teams on technical inquiries and test results to ensure critical timelines are met.
  • Actively engage in resource management tools and internal process optimization to increase overall FD GO efficiencies
  • Ensure and promote adherence to appropriate GxP, HSE, QA, AW, Finance, Regulatory, and other Elanco policies and requirements.
  • Maintain infrastructure of laboratory and an organized, clean and safe working environment
  • Prepare SOPs/working procedures.
  • Secure technical resources necessary to conduct clinical and/or laboratory studies, support the evaluation of data, consult outcomes with relevant study managers, and make recommendations for subsequent studies to advance projects.
  • Perform all functions the R&D scientists routinely perform - 60% of your time spent in the lab
  • Identify and develop new viral/bacterial culture methodologies and analytical methods
  • Evaluate and incorporate new laboratory equipment, innovation and techniques
  • Act as subject matter expert on clinical assay design, implementation and training with a demonstrated background in molecular assay techniques
  • Use data analysis and troubleshooting abilities to ensure quality and integrity of clinical testing processes and results.
  • Develop capacity and increase efficiencies through appropriate recruitment and staff training.
  • Identify and support ongoing technical skill enhancement for all staff.

Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in biology, microbiology, immunology, animal science or related scientific discipline
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in laboratory set
