The Department of Biology at Vassar College invites applications for a two-year full-time position in biochemistry at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning in the Fall of 2019 and continuing through Spring 2021.  Vassar College is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to increasing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum, and promoting an environment of equality, inclusion, and respect for difference. Candidates who can contribute to this goal through their teaching, research, advising, and other activities are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences in this area. Individuals from groups whose underrepresentation in the American professoriate has been severe and longstanding are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will teach five courses a year including introductory biology, an intermediate-level biochemistry course that includes a lecture and a laboratory section, and an advanced-level course, taken by biology, biochemistry and neuroscience and behavior majors, in the candidate’s field of study, preferably in neurochemistry or neuropharmacology. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will have access to research space and an office, a student research assistant, and access to shared research facilities and equipment. A Ph.D. in the biological sciences or related field is required.

Vassar is a highly selective, coeducational liberal arts college of about 2450 undergraduates located in the beautiful and historic Hudson Valley seventy-five miles north of New York City.

All applications should be submitted online at https://employment.vassar.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=52713. Upload the following application materials: cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching experience and philosophy, three letters of recommendation, unofficial graduate school transcript(s), and a diversity statement highlighting contributions to and/or future plans for promoting diversity and inclusion through teaching, research and/or professional involvements.

Review of applications begins Feb. 15, 2019 and continues until the position is filled. Please direct questions regarding the position or application process to Kathleen Susman, Chair of Biology (kasusman@vassar.edu).
