Join the bioimaging beamline B24 to support our user community and deliver cutting-edge imaging technology for biomedical research.

Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. Developments in bioimaging are accumulating at an accelerated pace delivering a wealth of imaging data from tracking biomolecules in live cells to the visualisation of fine cellular ultrastructure at near native states. Beamline B24 specialises in the application of high-resolution cutting-edge correlative microscopy of cells and biological tissue.   

Your new role

To help deliver a high standard of service to the research community and drive further developments and applications, we are looking for a support scientist to join beamline B24 to address the specific requirements of the beamline users and the wider scientific community. In that capacity, you will help deliver and develop existing methods and incorporate new methods to help our users capture novel experimental information and further our understanding of biological systems. This role will allow you to develop and further hone your expertise within an internationally renowned multidisciplinary environment driven by the pursuit of scientific excellence.

Your new team 

You will work as part of an experienced team of researchers with expertise ranging from sample preparation and sample mapping to data collection, data processing and analysis. You will collaborate with other team members and our users and you will have the opportunity to foster and deliver exciting projects. Your experience and underlying knowledge will be an indispensable asset to ensure the reliable delivery of the much-needed capabilities of beamline B24 to the scientific user community.  

What you'll need to succeed

Your ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment (interfacing with scientists and engineers and delivering professional service) is a crucial component to the success of this project. You will be proficient in biomedical research and have a working knowledge of biological imaging using visible light or X-rays. You will need a sound knowledge of imaging techniques and software and be comfortable with multiple operating systems and data analysis tools. You will have practical experience in biomedical research projects within preferably a setting geared towards user support and will be driven by a passion to learn and develop as a scientist.  

About beamline B24

Beamline B24 the soft X-ray tomography facility at Diamond offering both high resolution tomography and super resolution fluorescence microscopy facilities for biomedical research into cellular events implicated in a wide range of biological processes from physiological responses such as cell development and differentiation to pathologies such as carcinogenesis and pathogen recognition and clearance. We are currently offering a unique combination of microscopies that allow the extraction of multiple levels of biological information from a single sample and ultimately the delivery of terabytes of imaging information of biomedical relevance.
