A postdoc position in breast cancer research at Northwestern University
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in a relatively new breast cancer research lab (with Dai Horiuchi, Principal Investigator) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chicago.
The primary focus of the lab is to study the mechanisms of deadly tumor progression in breast cancer, focusing on the triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) subtype, and to identify novel targeted treatment strategies. To achieve these goals, we utilize a collection of human breast cancer cell lines, preclinical animal models, primary tumor organoids ex vivo, and high-throughput screening approaches along with state-of-the-art bioinformatics through collaboration with field experts. We are determined to help bring basic laboratory findings to clinical testing, and our research involves dynamic interactions with clinical investigators here at Northwestern Medicine and with industry partners.
We are particularly interested in identifying a highly motivated new team member in one of the following two research areas:
(1) To study the biology and therapeutic targetability of novel molecular factors (cell-fate determining transcription factors and genes thought to control cell metabolism, among others) that we have found to be significantly correlated with patient clinical outcomes. Some side projects include preclinical validation of our lab-identified potential targeted therapeutic strategies and their translation to early-stage clinical testing in collaboration with clinical investigators.
(2) To investigate the mechanisms by which an immunosuppressive TNBC microenvironment is generated and maintained. We are particularly interested in studying such immunosuppressive mechanisms that are independent of the currently well-studied immune checkpoint regulators. This project requires advanced training in immunology (with emphasis on T cell biology). Solid understanding of the current literature in immuno-oncology would be valuable.
Prior in-depth training in cancer research involving rodent animal models (transgenic/syngeneic/PDX) and advanced molecular and cell biological experimental skills as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications is a must for this position. Additionally, a solid understanding of fundamental global gene expression and statistical analysis methods is required. This position is most suitable for an individual who is capable of functioning in a fast-paced environment semi-independently with minimum guidance.
