Editor, Genetics and Genomics

Hoboken, NJ

Wiley is launching a premier, broad-interest, Open Access journal serving researchers in the field of genetics and genomics. The company seeks a talented Editor to implement this initiative. As acknowledged members of the genetics community, the Editor, working closely with Editor-in-Chief Myles Axton, will create a highly-anticipated journal grounded in a strong understanding of the field and with the mission of providing sustained value in the evolving world of open science and publishing. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and value of the journal by selecting and commissioning articles, analysis and perspectives to shape its content and scope, and working with a strong network of leading genetics researchers who are its authors and peer referees.

This journal will publish ground-breaking research from across all areas of genetics.  Special emphasis will be on studies of broad interest that lead to a deeper understanding of the genetic and functional genomic mechanisms underlying biological processes. This title will serve as a voice for the community with an emphasis on transparency and innovation; in addition to supervising peer review of original research, the Editor will highlight important new advances and promote timely discussion of relevant topics.

The qualified candidate will have a PhD in genetics or a related research discipline, such as biomedical or agricultural genomics, genome informatics or biomedical statistics with postdoctoral research experience and relevant publications. He or she will have a thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field, with the broad scientific curiosity to investigate emerging areas of research. He or she must also be able to analyze the quality and implications of research articles. The position requires excellent organization, decision making and transparent teamwork, spoken and written communication skills, and the ability to travel globally conducting outreach and nurturing existing contacts while developing new networks.

The Editor will be a full-time Wiley employee and member of our in-house editorial team. He or she will report to the Editor-in-Chief and collaborate with other internal colleagues in business development, production, and marketing to contribute to the overall publishing strategy of the journal and to Wiley’s genetics program as a whole.
