Sr./ Research Associate, Cell-based Assay Development

The Role:
Moderna is seeking a highly skilled, talented and motivated in vitro immune cell-based assay analyst for a position based at their Cambridge, MA site.  The individual will participate in the development and performance of cellular and biochemical assays to support advancement of Moderna's mRNA clinical development candidates.

Here's What You'll Do:

  • Development of in vitro assays (e.g. immunoassay, ELISA, PCR, Western blot, luminescence, bDNA, functional activity) using primary and cultured mammalian cells to support product development
  • Optimize assay performance (precision, accuracy, robustness) and implement high throughput sample testing to support product development
  • Standard mammalian cell culture support including maintaining and plating of cell lines
  • Isolation of human peripheral blood cell types for assay development
  • General laboratory assistance including lab equipment maintenance, preparation of reagents, and the ordering and receiving of lab supplies
  • Closely collaborate with members of the In Vitro Biology and Technical Development, and broadly with R&D departments throughout the company
  • Accountable for experiment design, success and results delivery
  • Record and communicate findings
  • Presentation of results at internal meetings

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table:

  • BS with 2-5 years of industry experience, or MS with 0-2 years of industry experience (Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related science), developing and performing cellular and biochemical assays
  • Hands on experience with mammalian cell culture, preferably with human primary blood cells, and the utilization of cell-based assays to examine the expression and/or activity of a variety of protein targets
  • Experience with ligand binding (e.g. ELISA, MSD) and/or molecular detection (e.g. PCR, bDNA) assay formats
  • Experience with bioassay analysis instrumentation (e.g. multimode plate readers, MSD, ELLA, Li-Cor, other) and analytical software tools (e.g. SoftMax Pro, Prism, other)
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative skills, attentive to detail, and the ability to work independently and effectively in a highly dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with the regulatory landscape and government agency guidance for bioassays
  • Experience with assay qualification and validation per ICH Guidelines for bioassays, preferably in a GMP environment
  • Familiarity with nucleic acid therapeutic characterization
  • Ability to multi-task to meet aggressive timelines and development goals
