Nonpareil Biotechnologies, Inc. is hiring a senior research scientist to lead a funded National Institutes of Health (NIH) CRADA project. The incumbent will be responsible for conducting immunological experiments aimed at validation of potential adjuncts for cancer immunotherapy. The incumbent will be hired by and serve as an employee of Nonpareil Biotechnologies, Inc., but will work full-time in a laboratory located on the NIH main campus in Bethesda, MD.

The project goals are to develop and perform assays to assess the impact of immuno-modulatory molecules on T cell function and T cell responses to established tumors in the mouse model. Qualified individuals should have a strong background in immunology and experience with in vivo animal tumor models is highly desirable. Knowledge of and experience with cell culture, molecular biology techniques, and flow cytometry is also required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary as this candidate will be expected to work productively in a collaborative team environment.

The incumbent must be a US citizen or permanent resident. The incumbent will be an employee of Nonpareil Biotechnologies working as a guest researcher at the NIH.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a project team leader for early stage targets: define the project strategy and drive project progression.
  • Generate T cells with modified expression of immuno-modulatory molecules to evaluate their influence T cell function using in vitro and in vivo experiments.
  • Design, plan and independently perform in vivo experiments to assess anti-tumor efficacy of specific molecules in mice.
  • Meticulous record keeping and ability to generate scientific reports to support preclinical cancer drug development.
  • Manage junior staff assigned to help carry out the project experiments.  
  • Present results, provide feedback, and propose steps for how the project can proceed to principal investigator and the management team.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in immunology or related cell biology field with 3+ years of postdoctoral experience in T cell immunology or immuno-oncology
  • Ability to independently design, perform and interpret in vitro assays and in vivo studies to demonstrate the impact of pathway modulation
  • Strong knowledge of cell culture and molecular biology techniques (cloning, CRISPR/Cas9, retro-/lentiviral expression vectors).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and standard data analysis software.
  • Proven expertise and experience in mouse techniques (animal handling including dosing (IV, SC, IP), dissection, tissue isolation). Experience with mouse tumor models is strongly preferred.
  • Skilled in development and application of flow cytometry antibody panels for functional phenotyping
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to organize and communicate complex data sets in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong track record in immunology related experimentation exemplified by authorship on peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and leadership roles.
  • Experience addressing immune response in mouse tumor models.
  • Independent, creative, highly motivated team player.
