Connecticut College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in bioinformatics at the assistant professor level to begin in July 2019. The position is jointly held by the Computer Science (CS) and Biology Departments. Applicants must have, or be on track to receive a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, computer science, biology, or a related field by July 2019. We seek an active researcher with expertise in data mining/machine learning methods and a strong background in genomics who is committed to teaching and research with undergraduates. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape and further develop the bioinformatics curriculum and will engage in interdisciplinary research with colleagues and students; the CS and Biology departments place great emphasis on these collaborations. Please visit the departments' webpages at https://www.conncoll.edu/academics/majors-departments-programs/departments/ for the current course offerings and faculty members' research and teaching interests. Candidates must have an active research program, a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and the potential to conduct research in a liberal arts setting. The new hire is expected to teach courses in both departments- data mining/machine learning, bioinformatics, genomics and introductory courses in both CS and Biology. The teaching load will be 2/2 in the first year, and 3/2 in subsequent years. In addition to providing ongoing strong support for teaching and research, the College will provide a supplementary research fund and a semester's sabbatical at full salary after a successful third-year review. Connecticut College is a private, highly selective institution with a demonstrated commitment to outstanding faculty teaching and research. Recognizing that intellectual vitality and diversity are inseparable, the College has embarked on a significantly successful initiative to diversify its faculty, student body and curriculum. The College seeks creative scholars excited about working in a liberal arts setting, with its strong focus on engaged teaching, participation in shared governance, and active involvement in an institution-wide advancement of diversity. We encourage applications from candidates who share this understanding of the faculty role and will contribute to the diversity of our college community, including members of historically underrepresented groups.
