Assistant Professor in Skeletal Muscle Biology

The Department of Cell, Developmental, and Integrative Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine seeks highly qualified applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position. Candidates with research programs focused on cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating skeletal muscle pathophysiology, plasticity, repair, or regeneration will be considered.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. (or similar doctorate) and have a demonstrated record of scholarly activity with preference given to candidates utilizing state-of-the-art approaches that complement existing expertise within the department. Investigators using rodent or other model systems extending to humans, to advance the understanding of skeletal muscle biology in the context of disease or injury, along with regenerative medicine/rehabilitation strategies, are strongly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to maintain a robust, independent, extramurally funded research program and participate in departmental teaching and scholarly activities. A strong commitment to excellence in graduate student training and medical education is also required. Candidates who have successfully competed for extramural funding from NIH, NSF, VA, or competitive research foundations will be given top priority.

The successful applicant will join a vibrant, cohesive, and diverse research environment and will benefit from an established career mentoring program. The Department also plays a leadership role in a number of cutting edge core facilities (e.g., High Resolution Imaging Facility, Core Muscle Research Laboratory) and interdisciplinary research centers (e.g., UAB Center for Exercise Medicine, Comprehensive Neuroscience Center) that facilitate research acceleration and mentoring for faculty and trainees.

UAB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer committed to fostering a diverse, equitable and family-friendly environment in which all faculty and staff can excel and achieve work/life balance irrespective of race, national origin, age, genetic or family medical history, gender, faith, gender identity and expression as well as sexual orientation. UAB also encourages applications from minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans.

Applicants should submit a CV, a one-page outline of research accomplishments, a summary of research goals, and a list of at least three individuals willing to provide letters of recommendation to the online UAB PeopleAdmin Faculty Recruitment portal.
