Post-doctoral Research Associate, Chemistry/Neuroscience

The labs of Dr. Heather Ferris in the Departments of Medicine and Neuroscience (https://med.virginia.edu/neuroscience/ferris-lab) and Dr. Ken Hsu in the Department of Chemistry (http://hsulab.com) at the University of Virginia are seeking applicants for a Post-doctoral Research Associate position focused on chemical biology and cholesterol signaling.

The research associate will engage in cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research that integrates small-molecule probes with mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics for pathophysiological analyses of cells and animals. The research associate will receive training in chemoproteomics, lipid biochemistry, in vivo pharmacology, and mass spectrometry. The specific project will include the use of photoactivatable probes coupled with mass spectrometry to identify novel targets of a cholesterol product. Subsequent target validation will be performed in cell and animal models of Alzheimer's disease. This position will be co-mentored by Dr. Ferris and Dr. Hsu, with cholesterol probe and mass spectrometry experiments initially performed in Dr. Hsu's lab and subsequent validation studies performed with Dr. Ferris. This project has a translational focus facilitated by resources available at both the College of Arts and Sciences and the Medical Center.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing experiments and writing manuscripts for publication, and abstracts for presentation at national and international meetings.

Completion of a PhD degree in Chemistry or related discipline is required at time of appointment. Published expertise in Synthetic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Bioorganic chemistry, or Neuroscience is strongly preferred.
