POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE IN LUNG STEM CELL BIOLOGY
One postdoctoral position is available in Dr. De Langhe’s laboratory at UAB. Our laboratory focuses on mechanisms underlying tissue remodeling after major injury to mouse and human lungs. The scope of projects centered on this theme range from basic studies of distal airway stem/progenitor cells responding to alveolar injury. Planned projects will involve substantial biochemistry and organoid biology in vitro, in vivo functional assays in injury models, high resolution microscopy, and genetically modified mice as reporters and tools for lineage tracing.
a) Develop a signaling "toolkit" that converts the mal-adaptive microenvironment of injured lungs into a receptive environment either for endogenous epithelial cell stem/progenitor expansion or for engraftment and improved function after transplantation of exogenous normal stem/progenitors. This project will require improved understanding of the key drivers and regulation of distal airway epithelial stem/progenitor cell mobilization, migration, and differentiation after major lung injury.
There is certainly also opportunity for novel research directions that a new scientist in the lab is motivated to initiate and pursue. We expect the successful candidate to have experience in cell and molecular biology, a genuine interest in repair processes including that of the lung, experience with mouse models, and at least one first author publication. Strong organizational skills, lab notebook practices, and attention to detail are vital.
