The Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary hosts a vibrant research community unified by the goal of rapidly translating scientific discoveries in the clinic. The School is a national leader in brain tumor research, thanks to the integration of basic and clinician scientists in the Clark Smith Brain Tumour Centre. The School and the Centre have made significant investments in next-generation biobaking, genomics, epigenomics and informatics, leading to cutting edge molecular phenotyping of patient-derived preclinical models.
In this context, the Gallo lab is using exciting new technologies to define the epigenome and chromatin landscape of cancer stem cells in brain tumors, with a special emphasis on glioblastoma. Given the close integration with the clinic, the Gallo lab has strong expertise in generating patient-derived preclinical models of glioblastoma stem cells. These models are being investigated by a cross-disciplinary team in the Gallo lab, which includes computational scientists, wet lab biologists and technical staff. Existing pipelines span -omics dataset generation, hypothesis testing using molecular biology techniques in our preclinical models and in vivo studies with orthotopic mouse models.
Dr Marco Gallo is searching for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who will perform epigenomic studies on glioblastoma stem cells. These studies will take advantage of single-cell and bulk genomics and epigenomics pipelines that have already been set up in the lab. The successful candidate will perform ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq, single-cell RNA-seq and other biochemical assays using our models.
Previous experience with chromatin studies, a PhD in a relevant field, a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and strong work ethics are required. Computational skills are not required, but will be considered an asset.
