Applications are invited from enthusiastic and talented individuals for a postdoctoral position focusing on the development of positron emission tomography (PET) imaging in the context of nanotherapy and immunotherapies.

Project description
One Postdoctoral Fellow position is available immediately in the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS) (http://med.stanford.edu/mips.html). Within the context of this position, tracer and targeting systems are designed, radiolabeled and synthesized using organic chemistry, radiochemistry and nanotechnology. The Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford (MIPS) was established as an inter-disciplinary program in 2003 and brings together scientists and physicians with expertise in each imaging modality to create a rich training program. The successful applicant must have a PhD in chemistry or a related area with expertise in organic or radiochemistry. Preference will also be given to candidates with a background with peptide and nanoparticle synthesis or PET imaging of nanoparticles, immune cells or viruses.  This position will remain open until filled and is available for a minimum of 1 year (up to 3 years).

Responsibilities and tasks
Within the primary project, the successful candidate’s main tasks will be to:

  • Synthesize chelators for high specific activity imaging
  • Prepare organic nanoparticles and viral capsids
  • Combine radiolabeled compounds and nanoparticles through organic chemistry
  • Prepare radiolabeled systems for in vivo studies
  • Assess results from in vivo studies
  • Write and publish scientific papers
  • Validate results based on in vitro assays

As a postdoctoral scientist you will also be able to participate in the range of other projects that are currently on-going within the group. Eventually you will also contribute to the general strategy of the group and the design of new projects.

Qualifications
Successful applicants will have a track record of productive research and publications. The candidate must have a PhD degree in radiochemistry, organic chemistry or a related field. In addition, the successful candidate must:

  1. Have a solid foundation in chemistry, especially organic synthesis
  2. Have a track record of academic publications, including writing/drafting first author papers
  3. Be driven, enthusiastic and highly ambitious
  4. Have a positive and social mindset
  5. Enjoy team-work and frequent communication with colleagues and collaborators

The following criteria are considered advantages but not requirements:

  1. Practical experience with nanomedicine
  2. Practical/theoretical experience with biorthogonal click chemistry
  3. Practical experience with radiochemistry
  4. Practical experience with viral capsids
  5. Practical experience with antibodies/diabodies

Application
Please submit your application no later than December 15, 2018. Apply at

Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration by email to “Ferrara.imaging@gmail.com”. The file must include:

  • Application letter (max 1 page)
