Assistant Professor(s) in Environmental Science and Environmental Sustainability
Barnard College seeks two full time tenure track Assistant Professor in Environmental Science and Environmental Sustainability, starting July 2019. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to and experience in teaching undergraduates along with establishing an active and externally funded research program involving undergraduates. The Environmental Science candidate should be engaged in laboratory and/or field based research that is accessible to undergraduate students and potentially utilizes the local environment in the broadly defined areas of atmospheric science/air quality, ecosystems, or resilience to environmental change. The Environmental Sustainability candidate could be from any field related to environmental sustainability, resilience, or environmental justice and who uses spatial-temporal data analysis, spatial simulation and modeling, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), high performance computing, or visualization in their research. Teaching responsibilities could include courses in Environmental Data Analysis, client based service learning, field methods, GIS, Senior Thesis, and electives in their research area.
Barnard is an independent liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University. There are many opportunities to collaborate with faculty in the larger research community at Barnard College as well as with researchers at Columbia’s Earth Institute, School of Engineering and Applied Science, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Mailman School of Public Health, and Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology, and multiple research centers at Columbia.
