Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology, Tenure Track
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the tenure track. The successful applicant will be accomplished in the area of Radiation Oncology, preferably with experience in one or more of the following areas: Study of the tumor microenvironment; Radiation response modifiers; Interaction between the immune system and radiotherapy; Application of genomics/radiomics in Radiotherapy. We invite applications from outstanding laboratory and/or clinical investigators; candidates should have strong scholarly credentials, a record of external research funding and high impact publications. Responsibilities include the development of a rigorous and nationally competitive research program consistent with the goals of the Department and contribution to its educational mission. Physician-Scientist candidates will have some patient care responsibilities for the general radiation oncology patient population. Applicants must have a M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree and have demonstrated excellent qualifications in education and research. Physician-Scientist applicants must be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology.
Penn Radiation Oncology Department faculty are engaged in highly collaborative and translational research. Currently, 10 Penn RadOnc faculty occupy contiguous space in the Smilow Center for Translational Research, adjacent to the clinic. A state-of-the-art radiation research facility with both photon and proton beam radiotherapy capabilities has been operational since 2017. Penn RadOnc is ranked in the top 3 Radiation Oncology Departments in NIH funding in the last 5 years, including 2 P01 grants. Additional funding comes from the Department of Defense, private foundations and industry.
Penn Radiation Oncology is dedicated to a three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and the education of residents and medical students. Penn Medicine delivers a full range of radiation oncology services (IMRT, brachytherapy, TBI, SRS and SBRT) and have an active development program in all aspects of radiotherapy physics. We are also active in photodynamic therapy research. The Roberts Proton Therapy Center opened in the fall of 2009. It houses the largest proton therapy facility in the USA, comprising four gantry treatment rooms and one fixed beam room. This facility has several unique features including MLC’s for scattered beams, pencil beam scanning and intensity modulate proton therapy, CBCT in the gantry rooms and fast beam switching. The University of Pennsylvania, Radiation Oncology Department also supports seven satellite facilities variously equipped with a total of seven linacs, a GammaKnife unit, CyberKnife and two HDR units.
