The Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Pittsburgh seeks MD, MD/PhD, or PhD scientists for full-time, tenure stream, academic faculty positions (Assistant to Full Professor) in the fields of obesity, diabetes, metabolism, nutrition, and/or metabolic disease prevention. All types or research in these areas will be considered (basic, translational, clinical, epidemiological, health outcomes). Physician scientists and candidates with inter/multidisciplinary research programs are particularly desirable. Successful candidates will have a history of academic research scholarship, a strong publication record, and a demonstrated capacity to secure external research funding from government, foundation, and/or industry sources.

The University of Pittsburgh and its affiliated Medical Center (UPMC) are leaders in biomedical research, education, and clinical care. As evidence of its academic and research excellence, the University of Pittsburgh has been consistently ranked in the top 5 institutions in the nation for research funding from the National Institutes of Health. In addition, UPMC was ranked 8th in the nation for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism according to the 2017 US News and World Report rankings. Research in the fields of obesity, diabetes, and metabolism are particularly strong. Multidisciplinary collaborative research in these areas is facilitated by Institutes and Centers that cover virtually all aspects of metabolism including  the University of Pittsburgh’s Diabetes Institutes (UPDI), Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (, Center for Metabolism and Mitochondrial Medicine (, Healthy Lifestyles Institute (, Vascular Medicine Institute (, Aging Institute, and Liver Research Center (, among others.  

In addition to the above research strengths, the research mission is further supported by T32 training programs funded by the National Institutes of Health. This includes the highly successful T32 training program in Endocrinology and Metabolism, which has been in place for over four decades ( Together, these resources provide a rich environment for research, training, and academic excellence.
