Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies
The University of Florida (UF) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the new UFCVM Associate Dean (AD) for Research and Graduate Studies. This important leadership position is responsible for overall leadership and coordination of the CVM’s missions in research and graduate education. Experienced researchers with demonstrated success in identifying new research avenues and building collaborative research teams are strongly encouraged to consider this exciting opportunity. The AD serves as a member of the CVM executive leadership team and has broad responsibilities that include (1) promoting a supportive environment for high-quality research in the college, (2) establishing priorities for general and targeted intramural research funding, (3) guiding the Director of Graduate Education to facilitate recruiting and training of top notch graduate students, (4) guiding the Director of Clinical and Translational Research to manage the CVM’s growing clinical and translational research enterprise and (5) providing logistic support for professional (DVM) student research training programs. In addition, the AD has important responsibilities as the official CVM representative for most research-related matters throughout UF as well as other universities and external entities. Finally, in order serve as the de facto leader of the college research mission, the AD should have a strong record of scholarly biomedical research with experience overseeing and developing successful federally-funded research programs or facilitating development of collaborative interdisciplinary research teams.
The CVM is comprised of five academic departments with more than 150 faculty and approximately 60 Master’s and doctoral-level graduate students. In addition, the college includes the combined UF Veterinary Hospitals with a diverse and robust caseload in excess of 30,000 annual patient visits that supports clinical research programs in all major clinical specialties. The CVM is part of the UF Academic Health Science Center that includes colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health & Health Professions. It is the only academic health science center in the southeast, and one of only three nationally, where all six colleges of health are located on the same campus. The CVM is affiliated strategically with the UF Academic Health Science Center and the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and is closely aligned with campus-wide initiatives in One Health. UF is a top-tier research university and currently is ranked eighth among all public universities by US News & World Report. The successful candidate should have a PhD in an appropriate discipline, DVM (or equivalent) or MD with qualifications and experience suitable for appointment at the rank of Professor.
