California Lutheran University (Cal Lutheran) seeks to hire an Integrative Biologist at the Assistant Professor level (tenure track), starting in the Fall of 2019. Our campus has recently become a Hispanic-Serving and McNair Institution and we are looking for candidates with a demonstrated commitment to and success working in diverse, multi-cultural and multi-racial communities. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. and provide evidence of excellence in teaching, as well as a strong commitment to developing a research program involving undergraduate students. It is essential that interested candidates possess the ability or potential to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate students, particularly those from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. Applicants with research interests utilizing diverse methodological approaches and interdisciplinary content are strongly encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral research and experience in collaborative grant writing are also highly desirable.
Given Cal Lutheran's proximity to the Pacific Ocean, we especially seek candidates who study molecular, biochemical, and physiological adaptations to the marine environment. The successful candidate will be expected to integrate modern molecular and physiological approaches into the curriculum. They will teach lecture and laboratory courses, including Introductory Biology, Biochemistry, and Genomics. Candidates with interests in interdisciplinary interactions and with abilities to contribute to our programs in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and/or Environmental Science will be given special consideration. There may also be an opportunity to develop new courses based on the successful candidate's expertise/interest.
The Biology Department at Cal Lutheran has excellent resources for engaging students in the process of scientific discovery, and Cal Lutheran has recently broken ground for a new, joint-sciences building that will expand our dedicated research space and foster collaboration. We offer two degrees, each supported by an inquiry-based curriculum that emphasizes active learning in order to provide students the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in elite graduate programs and prepare for careers in industry or academia.
