The University of Minnesota Medical School seeks an innovative, driven leader to direct the school’s Stem Cell Institute (SCI). This is a priority research area for the Medical School with a strong team, robust research program, and growing visibility within the state and nationally. The successful candidate will be strategic, collaborative, able to leverage the resources available through the Medical School, University and community, and unafraid to harness the potential in the SCI. The new director will hold an endowed chair.

Established in 1999, the SCI was the first interdisciplinary institute in the United States dedicated to stem cell research. The SCI is located in the state-of-the-art Biomedical Discovery District on the Twin-Cities campus. In 2014, the Minnesota State Legislature allocated 10 years of support for Regenerative Medicine Minnesota with an annual budget of over $4 million overseen by the University of Minnesota Medical School and Mayo Clinic.

The SCI includes 50 investigators of all ranks from 25 collaborating University departments, has an affiliated large-scale cell processing facility, offers a Master’s program in Stem Cell Biology, sponsors an interdisciplinary Stem Cell Biology NIH Training Grant, and offers a Stem Cell Business Incubator to support early stage businesses. The complete job description can be found at https://z.umn.edu/SCI_Director

Candidates for this position should have an MD or PhD in a relevant discipline, be eligible for appointment at the rank of associate or full professor, and have a strong record of federal funding and outstanding scholarship related to stem cell/regenerative medicine. Candidates will also have proven leadership experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and evidence to foster and coordinate collaborative work on a large scale.

Interested candidates should email a full CV and a cover letter that describes research background, relevant leadership experience and their vision for the SCI to Mary Winger at winger@umn.edu. Candidates are requested to also provide the names and contact information for three to five references. The references will not be contacted without the prior approval of the candidate. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
