The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) welcomes applications and nominations for its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). AWIS is the leading advocate for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Positioned at the interface of advocacy, research and partnerships, AWIS is an global convener for dialogue and action at the nexus of STEM, gender and equality.
AWIS is undertaking this search at a moment of transformative social and cultural change, rapidly accelerating advances in STEM and an ever-evolving synergy between industry, academia, and the government. There is a palpable excitement and resolve to advance gender equality and promote the inclusion of women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in these exciting changes. The confluence of these trends amplifies the necessity of AWIS’ voice and vision. This is a critical moment for a transformational CEO to shape strategies that will broaden AWIS’ service and engagement with its members, enhance the inclusion of diverse disciplines and sectors, and cultivate and expand partnerships to ensure AWIS’ vitality in an ever-expanding STEM landscape. At its core, this CEO role is an opportunity to shape the strategy that will align AWIS to where science and society are going in the next 25 years. AWIS currently has 2,275 dues-paying members and an operating budget of $2.2 million.
The successful candidate for this influential position will possess skills to lead transformational change. S/he will be business minded, committed to developing a strategic vision for the Association, and able to evolve innovative revenue models that support AWIS’ core mission. In addition, the CEO will initiate change internally, instilling a culture of empowerment, inclusion and transparency. As the most visible public representative of the Association, the candidate will possess the ability to enthusiastically and persuasively forge meaningful partnerships as well as advocate for AWIS among the scientific community, policy makers, industry groups, and funding organizations.
AWIS has retained the services of Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in conducting this important search.
