New Mexico State University invites applications for a 9 month tenure-track, assistant professor position in biology with a specialization in animal physiology. The department is a community of 22 faculty with active research programs in the areas of Cell and Organismal Biology, Ecology and Evolution, Microbiology, and Science Education. More than 60 graduate students are currently enrolled in MS and PhD programs. The undergraduate curriculum supports the education of over 550 undergraduate students with majors in Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, and Conservation Ecology as well as over 1100 majors and non-majors who enroll in biology courses every year.
The successful applicant will demonstrate the expertise to assist the Biology Department with faculty responsibilities relating to the land-grant mission of the University. She/he will have the skills to offer lecture and laboratory courses in human physiology, animal physiology, comparative physiology, and general biology at the upper and lower division undergraduate level (majors and non-majors) as well as graduate courses in their area of expertise. She/he will demonstrate their potential to establish an independent research program, disseminate research through publications and presentations (collaboratively or individually), secure independent funding, and participate in national, university, college, and departmental service and governance activities. She/he will be able to guide undergraduate and graduate student research, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and provide support for student retention and degree completion.
