The Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience is a leading research and teaching department in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Melbourne, Australia’s foremost research-intensive university. In the 2018 QS World University subject rankings, Melbourne was ranked 8th in the world for Anatomy and Physiology.
The Department’s vibrant research culture, spans computational/ systems biology, cellular and developmental biology, functional analysis and whole organ physiology. Excellence in teaching performance and high quality student graduates ensure significant contributions in undergraduate programs, as well as several postgraduate courses including the Graduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy, the Doctor of Physiotherapy, Doctor of Medicine and Masters of Biotechnology. The Department also coordinates the largest and oldest body donor program in Australia.
The Head of Department, Anatomy & Neuroscience will provide outstanding academic and administrative leadership, promoting high-impact research and teaching and learning in the Department, the Faculty and the University. Leadership and innovation in relation to teaching modalities will be highly regarded. A collegiate, collaborative, interdisciplinary and translational orientation that enhances the Department’s research and teaching culture will be critical as will engagement with clinicians, medical research institutes and commercial groups on a local and global perspective.
To be successful in this key leadership role, candidates will have a research doctoral degree in a relevant discipline; performance and pre-eminence as a scholar of international standing as measured by publication in high-impact peer reviewed journals; measures of esteem and substantial competitive grants won, managed and led.
This is a full-time, continuing appointment as a Professor. Appointment as Head of Department will be for five years initially with a possible continuation for a further term by negotiation. An attractive salary package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
