The Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia ( invites
applications for a 12-month full time Academic Professional (non-tenure track) to develop,
coordinate, supervise and teach undergraduate laboratory courses in Ecology. We seek
candidates who are passionate about quality undergraduate education and who can contribute to
the mentoring of graduate student instructors. Applicants must show evidence of excellence in
teaching, an ability to mentor student instructors in teaching, evidence of strong collaborative
skills, and excellent organizational skills. To apply, candidates must have a PhD or terminal
degree in ecology or a related field, such as biology, environmental science, or science

The position fills significant instructional and administrative roles in Ecology, requiring
experience in research methods in ecology, teaching skills, organizational skills, and a
collaborative work ethic. Responsibilities include developing and revising instructional activities
in ecology to be used in the laboratory program; planning, directing and teaching preparation
sessions; oversight of instruments, supplies and laboratory teaching spaces; analysis of
institutional and scientific data; and interacting with other faculty, graduate students, and
undergraduates relative to the laboratory program. The Academic Professional will oversee the
activities and training of graduate student teaching assistants, assign graduate students to
introductory ecology courses, coordinate laboratory safety and first-aid training, and support
graduate student teaching assistants in cases of potential Academic Honesty violation. The
successful candidate will also be expected to develop and update a graduate teaching assistant
manual, and evaluate student instructional performance. Other duties may include teaching
summer courses in introductory ecology, and periodically instructing introductory laboratory
sections during the academic year.
