Division of Intramural Research (DIR) of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute is seeking an outstanding scientist to initiate and direct an independent research program on the NIH campus in Bethesda, MD. The areas of expertise may include but are not limited to cell and developmental biology, cell and tissue biophysics, structural cell biology, cellular immunology, signal transduction, pattern formation, morphogenesis, and microscopy. Potential candidates are welcome to view the NHLBI DIR web pages (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/about/scientific-divisions/division-intramural-research) to review the research programs and support available within the DIR. The existing faculty consists of internationally recognized biomedical researchers covering a wide range of basic and clinical research topics complemented by the other DIR programs within NIH. NIH faculty can participate in Graduate Partnerships Program (http://gpp.nih.gov/) with many academic programs around the world as a means of recruiting graduate students. Strong research core support in optical and electron microscopy, transgenic mouse production, bioinformatics, mouse phenotyping, sequencing and genomics, proteomics, and flow cytometry is available to the DIR faculty (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/about/scientific-divisions/division-intramural-research/dir-core-facilities).

The candidate must have an M.D., Ph.D., or both, and have an outstanding record of research accomplishments as evidenced by publications in major peer-reviewed journals. The position can be filled as a tenure-track or tenure-eligible position, but preference will be given to senior post-doctoral fellows or faculty who are still in the early stages of their research careers.  The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, and will be assigned ample research space, supported positions, and an operating budget.  Appointees may be US citizens, resident aliens, or non-resident aliens with or eligible to obtain a valid employment authorized visaApplications from women, minorities and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged.
