The Buck Institute for Research on Aging seeks a Director of the Center for Reproductive Equality and Longevity, along with new faculty members at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor. We seek individuals working directly on mechanisms of female reproduction in humans as well as individuals using model systems to address questions broadly relevant to maintenance of female reproductive capacity. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: ovarian biology; cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate female reproduction; metabolic, epigenetic, and circadian mechanisms of somatic and germ cell aging in the reproductive system; translational research to prevent, slow progression, or reverse stem cell aging and somatic cell senescence in the ovaries and uterus.



Candidates for faculty positions should have a doctoral degree (MD and/or PhD) and at least 3 years postdoctoral experience with a demonstrated record of research accomplishments. Successful candidates are expected to establish a productive, cutting-edge research program focused on female reproductive longevity. Candidates should have proven leadership experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to foster collaborative work within the Institute and beyond. Candidates for the position of Director should have a well-established research program in the field and senior management experience.



The Buck Institute is the pioneer and leader in the field of aging research. Mechanisms that preserve healthy aging in the female reproductive system are critical to ensure the maintenance of regenerative capacity and healthy aging, yet women’s reproductive longevity remains understudied. There is an urgent need to leverage cross-disciplinary studies to build knowledge in this important area. Recent studies suggest that there are several potential molecular mechanisms contributing to ovarian aging, including impaired DNA repair, metabolic/energetic disorders, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Our goal is to build on these preliminary findings to further the understanding of the mechanisms of female reproductive aging and potentially develop strategies to prevent or delay ovarian aging.
