Product R&D Analytical Devevlopment is an innovation-focused organization in Lilly striving to identify, develop and apply the most cutting-edge technologies to deliver maximum benefit to our patients. Within this organization, the Trace Organic Analysis Laboratory is responsible for the analytical efforts to support characterization, development and scale-up of investigational small, medium, and large molecules supporting the early Development portfolio from Candidate Selection through late stage clinical trials (Phase III). Through application of scientific training and relevant experience, you will collaborate with a team of scientists to support the development and commercialization of new drug entities.
As an Analytical Chemist, you will interact closely with other analytical chemists and scientists and may be an integral part of multidisciplinary teams that provide support for product and process development, as well as manufacturing and quality control. Your expertise will allow you to serve as a leader and coach for other team members for both technical and business growth. You will work diligently to understand and adhere to the laboratory quality systems applicable to the work being performed. All laboratory work will be conducted and documented in accordance with applicable local and regulatory standards. Your experience will be key for troubleshooting, IQ/OQ and calibration of analytical instrumentation in the Mass Spectrometry laboratory. Additionally, you will have the following responsibilities:
  • Sample receipt/login, raw data recording, maintenance of equipment files and generating technical reports
  • Secondary review of data, technical review, verification and release of data
  • Conduct investigations involving non-routine samples, structure elucidation of unknown compounds, quantitation of trace level impurities, and technical support.
  • Conduct studies to develop methods and evaluate new technologies.
  • Sample preparation, instrument set-up and operation, data entry, primary data review.
This role will give you the opportunity to utilize your exceptional business and technical knowledge within the discipline to make decision within guidelines and policies (ie: business, compliance, regulatory, quality, environmental, and safety expectations). You will lead small to medium projects or programs with minimal to moderate risks and resource/financial requirements.

  • Provide sound problem solving skills to complex issues; openly share technical knowledge and key learning.
  • Anticipate customer needs and handle nonstandard requests.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in one or more of the following areas-Analytical Expertise, Mass spectrometry or HPLC or GC
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position

Additional Skills/Preferences
  • General knowledge of analytical chemistry with experience in mass spectrometry, chromatography and computerized data acquisition and processing systems.
  • Experience designing experiments, generating and retrieving data, and interpreting results independently
  • Fluency in writing and speaking English
