UTHealth Human Genetics/Genomics Postdoctoral Fellow
Human Genetics/Genomics Postdoctoral Fellow
An open position for a postdoctoral fellow in human genetics/genomics field is available in the laboratory of Ashish Kapoor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
The Kapoor lab focuses on understanding the role of variable gene expression driven by non-coding cis-regulatory sequence variation in human disease/trait risk. Although, genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have beyond doubt established a major role for variable gene expression as the basis for trait variation and disease risk, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. We utilize a wide array of genetic, biochemical, cellular, functional genomic, epigenomic and computational approaches to identify the molecular components and the structure of the regulatory apparatus underlying gene expression variation in humans. We are seeking a talented and highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. in human genetics, genomics, or other relevant field to join the lab. The candidate must demonstrate scientific productivity, rigor and creativity with a strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The candidate must demonstrate initiative and the capacity to conduct independent research. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. The successful candidate will be leading projects on functional characterization of GWAS signals to understand the molecular basis of observed genetic associations. Individuals with both wet lab and computational/statistical experience are preferred.
Salary and benefits will follow National Institutes of Health and UTHealth guidelines. UTHealth offers limited housing opportunities for postdoctoral fellows and a large number of benefits.
The Kapoor lab is located in the Center for Human Genetics at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, McGovern Medical School, UTHealth. UTHealth is one of the several institutions located at the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. The vast resources within UTHealth and other institutions at the Texas Medical Center make it an ideal place to facilitate the success of projects and provide avenues for collaborations with other laboratories. And the city of Houston is the fourth most populous city in the US and with over 80 diplomatic missions, Houston is also one of the most diverse cities in the US.
