Postdoctoral Fellow - Human Germ Cell Biology and In Vitro Gametogenesis
Postdoctoral fellow position in the lab of Dr. Kotaro Sasaki, M.D., Ph.D. (Assistant Professor, University of Pennsylvania) to study human germ cell development and in vitro gametogenesis
The Sasaki lab is a newly established laboratory, which focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of human germline development using single cell genomics and in vitro reconstitution.
We have identified the origin and the comprehensive developmental roadmap of primordial germ cells (PGCs), the precursors both for oocytes and spermatozoa, in non-human primates (Dev Cell 2016, 39:169). Moreover, we have successfully reconstituted human primordial germ cell-like cells (hPGCLCs) in vitro from pluripotent stem cells (Cell Stem Cell 2015, 17:178). These studies provide the platform for the mechanistic dissection of the human germline specification pathway as well as the further reconstitution of human gametogenesis in vitro. Our studies of germ cell biology in human/non-human primates not only advance our understanding of the most fundamental part of life but also directly links to many clinical applications, such as infertility treatment and screening for the potential causes of infertility.
We are seeking highly motivated and creative postdoctoral fellows to lead the projects to better understanding the molecular basis of human germline development, in particular, the primordial germ cell specification and spermatogenesis using genomics approach on the above established in vitro system as well as on the in vivo human material.
Successful applicants should have strong familiarity with both biology and quantitative data analysis with training in bioinformatics and/or genomics. Computer programming skills (R, Python) are required. Applicants should have evidence of their productivity including at least 1-2 first author publications.
