Assistant Professor of Biology and Neuroscience

The Allegheny College Biology Department invites applicants for a tenure-track position in animal physiology to begin August 2019. Candidates should have a Ph.D., a strong commitment to liberal arts education, and the ability to develop an active research program with undergraduates that focuses on fundamental problems in physiology and neuroscience. Candidates with interests in neuroscience using mouse models are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities will include an upper-level physiology course, contributions to introductory biology and neuroscience courses, a junior seminar in the candidate’s area of expertise, and college-wide seminars that emphasize writing and speaking. The faculty member is expected to advise senior research projects and involve students in their research. Dedicated research space and start-up funds are available. The successful candidate will provide evidence of excellence in teaching, ongoing scholarship, and professional development as well as a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Allegheny College, the Biology Department, and the Neuroscience Program support interdisciplinary and interdepartmental teaching and research and community-engaged work.

A strong teaching statement will include demonstrated experience with a variety of teaching methods or curricular perspectives and a discussion of approaches to teaching and advising a diverse student population. Candidates also should arrange to have 3 letters of reference sent electronically. All materials should be sent to bio@allegheny.edu. Review of applications will begin on 10/12/18.  Allegheny College is an Equal Opportunity Employer with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
