The newly established Center for Precision Environmental Health (https://www.bcm.edu/centers/precision-environmental-health) invites applications for an open-rank faculty search. Applications will be considered for tenured/tenure-track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor.

A top-20 medical school, ranked among the best research-intensive institutions in the USA, Baylor College of Medicine is located in Houston, Texas, in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, the largest biomedical research campus in the world.  The Center for Precision Environmental Health is a highly interactive, interdisciplinary group of faculty, students and fellows working to understand the underlying causes of disease through research at the intersection of genetics, environmental health, and computational biology. The Center occupies dedicated space in the Alkek building on the Baylor College of Medicine main campus, with open modern labs and an adjacent office and administrative suite.

Center faculty enjoy access to Baylor’s impressive state-of-the-art core facilities (https://www.bcm.edu/research/advanced-technology-core-labs) at subsidized rates, outstanding M.D/Ph.D. (https://www.bcm.edu/education/programs/md-phd-program) and Ph.D. (https://www.bcm.edu/education/schools/graduate-school-of-biomedical-sciences/about-us) training programs, and a new interinstitutional T32 training grant in Precision Environmental Health. Candidates with cancer-relevant research programs are also eligible for funding from the Cancer and Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT)(http://www.cprit.state.tx.us/research/).

Center faculty hold academic appointments in one or more of Baylor’s basic, translational or clinical departments including Molecular & Cellular Biology, Molecular & Human Genetics, and Medicine.  Ample opportunities exist for collaborations with faculty across the Texas Medical Center, including U.T. MD Anderson Cancer Center, UT Health, Texas A&M University, Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston Methodist Research Institute, University of Houston, and Rice University.

The successful candidate will use innovative approaches to study important questions in cell and molecular biology and gene-environment interactions, broadly defined.  Applicants’ research programs should complement existing Center faculty strengths in environmental health, cell and developmental biology, genetics, epigenetics, cancer biology, neurocognitive/neurodegenerative disease, and model systems of human disease, including vertebrate and invertebrate model organisms.  The selected candidate will also be expected to advance Baylor's strategic plan by contributing to initiatives in Population Health and Precision Medicine.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) with a strong record of scholarly activity. Candidates for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor levels should be nationally or internationally recognized scholars with consistent externally funded research programs.  The Search Committee hopes to draw from a diverse applicant pool, and applications from women and underrepresented minorities are strongly encouraged. Prospective candidates should send a statement of research interests, CV and a list of at least three references to precisionhealth@bcm.edu. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2018. The search will remain open until the position is filled.
