Postdoctoral Associate or Research Scientist
Multiple postdoctoral fellowship and/or research scientist positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Richard D. Wainford at the Boston University School of Medicine and Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute in Boston, MA, USA. Dr. Wainford’s laboratory employs a state-of-the-art "molecule to whole animal" translational approach in his research program.
Dr. Wainford's NIH funded studies are focused in 2 distinct areas:
1) The role of hypothalamic PVN G-alpha subunit protein signaling pathways in the regulation of PVN neuronal activation, sympathetic outflow and blood pressure in response to alterations in sodium intake and in the pathophysiology of salt sensitive hypertension.
2) The role of the sympathetic nervous system in modulating renal sodium homeostasis and blood pressure via the regulation of the sodium chloride cotransporter and its signal transduction cascade.
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Physiology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Renal Physiology, Pharmacology or a related field. Prior experience in brain microinjection in rodents, retrograde tracing of neurons, the neural control of blood pressure, or renal physiology is preferred. Candidates should be highly motivated, be able to work independently, and show excellent critical thinking, scholarly ability and communication skills. Salary will be commensurate with the NIH pay scale.
Review of applications will begin immediately until the positions are filled.
