Anesthesiology Department: Search for Neuroscience Faculty – Recruiting for Two faculty positions: Assistant Professor and Professor/Associate Professor.
The Department of Anesthesiology within the Stony Brook School of Medicine seeks to recruit Two outstanding basic scientists and translational scientists at the Assistant Professor level and the Professor/Associate Professor.
Stony Brook School of Medicine - Department of Anesthesiology is rank #4 in NIH Funding for 2017.
Current research strengths include: mode of action of anesthetic agents, molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders, acute and chronic pain, adult neurogenesis, memory and learning, brain imaging, mitochondrial dysfunction, and ciliopathies. These areas are investigated on animal models ranging from Drosophila and frogs to mice and humans. The department also includes strong clinical research. The research arm of the Department has recently undergone major growth, with an expanded focus on basic and clinical neuroscience.
Assistant Professor Position: Candidates must have a strong track record in basic or translational research in any fundamental area with relevance to neuroscience, including but not limited to pain.
Professor/Associate Professor Position: Candidates should have demonstrated success in obtaining external funding and a national/international reputation for research leadership and mentorship. Candidates also must have a strong track record in basic or translational research in any fundamental area with relevance to neuroscience, including but not limited to pain.
Candidates must have a PhD and/or MD degree and are expected to bring their own vigorous dynamic program that would synergize with the ongoing studies at the Department.
The Department and the School of Medicine have excellent research infrastructure, which includes MRI, PET, CT, microscopy, behavioral, genomics, proteomics, and animal facilities. Faculty in the Anesthesiology department also enjoy strong avenues of collaboration and access to PhD candidates in other departments in the School of Medicine and in the College of Arts and Sciences.
