The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology consists of the three departments Evolutionary Genetics, Evolutionary Theory and Microbial Population Biology.
It is focused on basic research to unravel general evolutionary processes, such as ecological adaptations, benefits of sexual reproduction or evolution of cooperation. The scope of the work includes ecological, organismic, molecular and theoretical approaches
The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology seeks a highly motivated, inquisitive and intellectually curious individual skilled in application of advanced computing capacity to the solving of complex biological problems.
The successful individual will join a vibrant interdisciplinary institute housing departments spanning evolutionary genetics, experimental evolution, theoretical biology, and independent research groups in diverse fields.
In this new role your initial task will be to take responsibility for solving challenges surrounding the need for in-house solutions to archiving, curation, interrogation and analysis of thousands of bacterial genomes derived from studies in experimental evolution and from natural populations. Subsequently, you will broaden your tasks and support also other research areas in the institute.
You will have a PhD and post-doctoral (or equivalent) experience with proven ability to apply advanced computing capacity to solving biological problems. Additionally, you will have expertise in one or more of the following: use of computer clusters and parallelization, scripting, implementation of pipelines for organizing and analyzing complex data sets, network analysis, use of collaboration tools, machine learning and artificial intelligence, visualization and image analysis, data mining and bioinformatics. Your written and verbal communication skills will be excellent and you will enjoy facilitating interactions among scientists.
We offer a full-time employment in a vibrant and international working environment. The permanent position is available immediately. The salary will be in accordance with the collective agreement of the public service (TVöD Bund, in consideration of your qualification and experiences) up to level E15. Further social benefits will fall within the regulations of the public service.
