TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for applied scientific research, is seeking to appoint three Directors of Science for its Units Buildings, Infrastructure & Maritime (BI&M), Information & Communication Technology (ICT), and Industry.

Your Role and Profile
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Director of Science is member of the Unit’s management team, which also includes a Director Market and a Director of Operations. As the scientific expert, the Director of Science is responsible for the quality of the Unit’s knowledge programme and for promoting the knowledge base, both inhouse and externally. You are therefore charged with creating the high-quality knowledge base in support of the Unit’s innovation objectives and to attract new talent, partners and clients. You collaborate closely with the Unit’s knowledge team, including the Principal Scientists.
You have a strong (scientific) track record in the research field relevant to the Unit. As the Director of Science should be recognised as a thought leader within the relevant field of expertise, you will have a strong outlook on (long-term) knowledge development and as such have a strong innovative and conceptual mentality. The Director of Science should present the gravitas necessary to take the lead in shaping the Unit’s thought leadership. You should have inspiring leadership skills and significant management capability, and the ability to build effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders and potential clients.
