Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure Track)

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The University of British Columbia invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure track. The successful applicant will also hold a concurrent appointment as an Investigator within the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI).

The Department is seeking applicants with an expertise in the area of immunopathology of metabolic diseases such as diabetes mellitus (diabetes), but candidates leading research programs investigating the role of immunometabolism in autoimmunity and/or cancer will also be considered. The ideal candidate's research would also integrate studies of how the intestinal microbiome contributes to immunometabolism in health and disease. In addition to discovering new mechanisms that control the cross-talk between immunity and metabolism and/or other disease processes, the candidate’s research program should aim to develop new diagnostic and/or therapeutic modalities.

BCCHRI is a large, hospital-based research institute where over 300 investigators form a dynamic and highly collaborative research community. The successful candidate will join a thriving and group of investigators working in the specific areas of human immunology, diabetes and obesity. The candidate will have access to well-established wet-lab and clinical research core facilities as well as research development and education programs. The successful candidate will be supported with appropriate space and a commensurate start-up award.

The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D., MD, or MD/Ph.D. with postdoctoral research experience in one or more of the above listed areas. As a faculty member in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the successful applicant will be expected to be a collaboratively spirited and engaged colleague who contributes to educational programs of the Department and directly participates in other departmental activities. The successful candidate is required to have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, have demonstrated (or demonstrated potential for) excellence teaching, supervision and mentorship of students and trainees at all levels, and have a commitment to academic service. The candidate will also have a strong record of research productivity, commensurate with their experience, and will have demonstrated (or demonstrated potential for) establishing a successful research program.

The appropriate rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
