Staff Scientist | Molecular Pathology Core

Position Summary and Key Responsibilities:

A Staff Scientist position is available in Beckman Research Institute of City of Hope.

Performs pivotal role in the shared resources solid tumor and molecular pathology cores to support clinical translational research in the areas of multicolor immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, multicolor immunofluorescence assays, microRNA assays and image analysis. Performs new technology development and documentation as standard operating procedures under the direction of the core director.

Essential Functions:

  • Works on various solid tumor core and molecular pathology core projects as assigned, under direction of the molecular pathology core director and under the supervision of the Core Administrator.
  • Develop new multicolor immunohistochemical and multicolor immunofluorescence assays.
  • Develop in situ hybridization, microRNA and CyTOF FFPE assays
  • Establish image analysis methods to support the above assays.
  • Document all methods performed as standard operating procedures which will be approved by core director. SOPs will be implemented as offerings in the Cores.
  • Regular and timely attendance of meetings
  • Meet mutually agreed upon project goals; discuss project progress at weekly intervals with core director
  • Support scientific and technical staff in the lab
  • Stay up-to-date with the relevant literature
  • Enhances professional growth and development by participation in educational programs, workshops, conferences, and meetings.
  • Plays an active role in preparation of original manuscripts
  • Maintenance of records, standard operating procedures and other related duties as assigned or requested

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, includingadherence to theworkplaceCode of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Performs or participates in quality control, quality assurance, or quality improvement procedures.

Individuals appointed as staff scientists will receive a one-year fixed-term contract.

Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

Ph.D. in molecular biology or genetics preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in performing and developing immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence assays
  • 3+ years of experience with image analysis

Requirements, other:

  • Basic knowledge of histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, RNA/DNA analysis methods, and image analysis.
  • Experience with statistical, spreadsheet, graphics and word-processing software packages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate manner.
  • Excellent teaching/training skills
  • Preferred Field of Expertise:Molecular Biology, genetics, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence.
