This role will work with a diverse set of external and internal stakeholders to drive innovation and industry leadership in Consumerism.  The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Manage projects and prioritize work across divisions that align to business priorities and US Human Health Strategy 2020
  • Support the Director, Consumerism for comprehensive engagement with US Marketing Leaders and brand teams across Oncology and Women’s Health, focused on identifying business problems that the Innovation & Solutions team will work with the brand teams on solving.
  • Support US Consumer Digital Experience through identification of key consumer and digital trends, appropriate technology partners, and innovative campaigns to drive consumer engagement.
  • Manage the digital platform inclusive of all operations to drive healthcare engagement including new content development, and innovative social and media strategies.
  • Engage with customer facing account leaders and top customers to understand customer needs aligned to business priorities, in the context of Consumerism; identify gaps and opportunities, and make recommendations for evolution of strategy and resource development. 
  • Manage budget for respective work and agencies.
  • Lead projects and motivate other team members; promote value of working together as a team.

This role supports the U.S. Strategy to drive innovation to expand Merck’s capability to develop and incubate innovative programs and tools that address unmet needs of top customers, including integrated delivery networks, payers, retail chains and other influencers of health care decision-making. This role will work with a diverse set of external [Consumer  experts, Quality experts, and Top Customers] and internal stakeholders [Brand Marketing, Strategy & Planning, Field Based Account Executives , Promotion, Marketing Research, Operations, Multi-Channel, Medical/Legal, Training]; also other divisional areas when projects align directly to business priorities.  



Education Minimum Requirement:   Bachelor's degree, required 

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 3+ years experience in pharmaceutical commercial and/or health care industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Consumerism and digital  trends in health care
  • Demonstrated project management and project portfolio management skills
  • Leadership that serves to catalyze how Merck engages differently with customers, in creative, impactful and compliant ways to support our brands 
  • Experience working with multiple brand teams
  • Agency experience
  • Ability to learn quickly and to assess a variety of scenarios both strategically and operationally

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Three (3) or more years of recent customer-facing experience
  • Broad knowledge of Merck product portfolio
  • Experience engaging with Integrated Delivery Systems and consumers on evolving healthcare trends and needs
  • Collaboration skills that cross franchises and divisions, and support a ‘One Merck” approach 
  • Budget management 
  • PRT and Job Owner experience
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and business development skills.  Ability to function and influence others in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, within a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
  • Ability to influence leadership and appropriately challenge status quo 
  • Ability to lead others to solve complex problems; take a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
