Department Chair Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences
The Department of Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Houston, College of Pharmacy, is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as chair of the multidisciplinary department. Candidates interested in applying for the position must be a nationally recognized educator and researcher. A PhD, PharmD/PhD or MD/PhD degree is required in the discipline of pharmacology, pharmaceutics, medicinal chemistry or other related fields.
The department currently has 25 tenure-track/tenured and 2 instructional faculty members with research interests in cancer pharmacology and toxicology, cardiac and renal mechanisms associated with cardiovascular disease, behavioral pharmacology and neurodegenerative disorders, targeted drug delivery using nano-delivery systems, development and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics modeling of novel drug formulations, and medicinal chemistry of anti-infective/anticancer drugs and diagnostics. In addition, the department has 5 research faculty members, 16 postdocs, 4 visiting scholars, 4 research staff members and 50 PhD students (fall 2018). The department is also responsible for teaching all basic science courses in the PharmD professional program, administering PhD programs in pharmaceutics, pharmacology and pharmacology/medicinal chemistry. During FY’17 the department had received over $8 million in external research funding. Also, last year the college of pharmacy moved into a new building which has state of the art research and teaching facilities. A variety of major new equipment as well as core research facilities are available in support of our growing research program.
The candidate appointed to this position will be responsible to further increase the graduate student enrollment and faculty research productivity.
