Position Description:The position will work as a member of Merck’s Identity & Access Management (IAM) Engineering team.  Candidates must possess extensive experience with public key infrastructure (PKI) engineering, implementation and support in a global enterprise setting.  In addition to the engineering aspects of the position, this role will also serve as a PKI Subject Matter Expert providing guidance on the use of PKI/encryption to best protect and secure the Merck environment.  They will also be directly involved in evaluating and setting mid- and long-term direction for PKI across the organization.   Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:  Bachelor’s degree
Required Experience and Skills:
  • 7+ years’ experience in designing and implementing global PKI supporting Windows, Mac OS, IOS and Android operating systems
  • Experience assessing uses cases and implementing PKI/encryption to address the identified need
  • Practical experience with the deployment of SmartCards in an enterprise environment
  • Ability to understand mid- and long-term PKI needs and to articulate a strategy for future investment and implementation
  • Experience with Microsoft Certificate Authority (2003 and higher)
  • Deploying/managing subordinate Certificate Authorities
  • Monitor and administer certificate usage, deployment, and lifecycle  
  • Configuring and deploying certificate templates
  • Solid understanding of cryptographic algorithms and hashing functions
  • Experience with PKI-based protocols and certificate-enabled applications (e.g. SSL/TLS, S/MIME, authentication, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of Windows, UNIX, Linux, and web-based systems
  • CRL’s distribution and management

Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Experience with Venafi’s certificate management solution
  • Smart card or security token experience 
  • Successfully worked with junior engineers to provide guidance on PKI use and best practices to aid in the development of their PKI competency
  • Experience with Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) deployment and support
  • Experience with installation and configuration of Thales hardware security module (HSM)
  • Good working knowledge of ITIL framework
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Remedy for Change, Incident and Knowledge Management
