The Integrated Process Team (IPT) is the manufacturing operations organization at the Merck Cherokee facility, the team that is directly responsible for manufacturing pharmaceutical products at the plant.  The candidate will serve as the liaison for engineering, maintenance, and construction work to support production activities in the manufacturing facilities. The candidate will serve as a gatekeeper for all maintenance activities in the operating area, with responsibility for understanding maintenance needs from operations stakeholders and coordinating execution of work to support those needs with the Engineering and Maintenance department.

The position will report to the IPT Leader (Director, Operations) and will be accountable, in a matrix fashion, to the IPT Production Leaders (Associate Director, Operations).

The IPT Maintenance Lead is a member of the IPT leadership team and as such is expected to contribute to the overall leadership and management of the production facility.  


Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Serves as primary contact for reporting, troubleshooting, and addressing mechanical issues within the facilities.

Manages and coordinates execution of maintenance activities in a manner that minimizes process downtime. 

Assists in coordination of time-critical, factory-wide events including process equipment changeover work for multi-product factories, and yearly plant shutdown maintenance events.   

Utilizes the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to track maintenance and installation work through its lifecycle and to track equipment performance.

Coordinates with operations staff to plan equipment downtime for maintenance and construction activity before scheduling equipment turnover with the Engineering and Maintenance department and maintenance crafts.

Manages equipment turnover between operations and Engineering and Maintenance staff (and vice-versa) in a manner that meets Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and safety and environmental requirements.

Ensures preventive and predictive maintenance is scheduled and completed according to schedule, to meet quality and safety/environmental compliance requirements.

Initiates and executes Management of Change (MOC) documentation, creates and tracks associated work orders, and maintains a status log of area MOC activity.

Monitors spending charges associated with the maintenance activities in the area to ensure budgets are met.

Directly manages multiple maintenance coordinators who complete thehazardous energy isolation and  issue high-risk work permits to ensure maintenance and installation work is completed without incident.

Indirectly manages a multi-craft mechanic team, including pipefitters, electricians, instrument technicians, millwrights, and welders.  Indirectly manages contract and project craft resources.

On an as-needed basis, supplements the maintenance coordinators in the completion of hazardous energy isolation and issuance of work permits.

Works collaboratively with the extended IPT team (supply chain, technical, engineering and maintenance, quality, safety and environmental) to ensure overall success and performance of the IPT and the Cherokee plant.


Qualifications

HS diploma  plus a  minimum of 8 years relevant experience in chemical/pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, process technical support, or other related field 

OR

Bachelor's degree (preferred) in Chemical Engineering Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering/scientific discipline with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience in chemical/pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, process technical support, or other related field 


Required Experience and Skills: 

Technical understanding of the operation and maintenance of chemical processing equipment.

Experience managing or executing industrial maintenance activities (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation).

Knowledge of the hazards of chemicals and materials used in the chemical processing environment.

Good understanding of GMP/EHS compliance requirements, particularly management and Detail oriented, flexible, and able to independently manage multiple priorities.


Preferred Experience and Skills:

Facilitation and problem solving skills (Lean/Six Sigma training or certification).

People management experience.

Experience with maintenance scheduling and planning in an industrial environment.

SAP experience.
