About The Position:


The Associate Director position will afford the successful candidate an opportunity to join a collaborative team leading global sourcing initiatives and driving world class innovation in support of the Merck Research and Development Strategy. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Lab Equipment Sourcing Team’s execution and management of global, region and local strategies for all spend in support of our research sites and coordination of strategies for the manufacturing sites. The Associate Director will take an active role in the development of global procurement strategy, category management, contract management, risk management stakeholder management and supplier value management of the suppliers.

Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

•               The candidate will be responsible driving the sourcing of all for the lab equipment and associated systems.

•               The candidate is responsible to guide the development and implementation of the category sourcing strategy and ensure alignment, compliance and delivery of required business performance.

•               Innovation – Be able to understand the equipment and systems requirements of the business and convert into strategic sourcing solutions.

•               Stakeholder Management – Support the high performance engagement model with the business stakeholder.

•               Performance – Drive competitive sourcing events (RFIs & RFPs) and support supplier selection, commercial negotiation, and market awareness.

•               Proactive Cost Management – Drive cost control, cost reduction, and cost containment targets, and add value to area of expenditure through a strong total cost orientation.

•               Diversity – Actively supports Merck’s supplier diversity program and looks for expanding relationships and spend with diverse suppliers.

•               Category Knowledge - Leverages deep understanding of marketplace, competitors and business requirements.

•               Supplier Value Management – manage value delivery intiatives and performance management with the key suppliers.

•               Miscellaneous – Incumbent may be asked to support other areas of the business including but not limited to Departmental Projects that that drive our goals and metrics. Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:  


B.A. or B.S. degree preferably in Engineering, Science, or Business. MBA or advanced degree is desirable.


Required Experience and Skills:

 

Over 10 years of industry experience. Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.  Has demonstrated strong leadership, problem solving, and team building abilities.  Must posses the ability to work independently with minimal coaching.


Preferred Experience and Skills:


·         Pharmaceutical industry experience.

·         Strong background in strategic sourcing.

·         Understanding of lab equipment and systems utilized in a research and manufacturing                    environment to collaborate with researchers and drive standardization across Merck where              possible.

·         Experience managing multiple simultaneous and complex projects requiring frequent                        communication, organizing/time management and problem solving skills.

·         Ability to translate strategic vision into actionable plans and manage the change required to           execute.

·         Expert knowledge of technology sourcing activities including RFP development, bid response         evaluation, and contract negotiations.

·         Strong negotiating and contracting skills essential; global experience.

·         High degree of flexibility and adaptability to deal with ambiguous and dynamic situation.

·         Ability to work with senior management with professionalism and discretion.

·         Experience working with internal legal operations.

·         Demonstrated ability to work well with people from many different disciplines.
