The Specialist, Project Manager will fill a key role at the Elkhorn facility in support and development of small to medium capital projects according to site and corporate engineering, safety, environmental, quality, and code requirements.  The position will be responsible for developing project scope, support, funding, design, execution, commissioning, qualification, and delivery of capital projects at the Elkhorn site.  Project leadership roles will include both small, limited scope upgrades; as well as large, complex projects with many stakeholders and critical impact upon the organization.  The Project Manager will manage all engineering projects under the Merck Global Engineering Services Project Management process.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement: 

•Master or Contractor trade license is preferred.

•OSHA 10 hr construction safety is required (or able to obtain within first 3 months).

•High School Diploma

•Excavation Competent Person Training required


Required Experience and Skills: 

•Experience managing projects between $50K and $3MM in a highly regulated industry (bio-tech, pharma, food, nuclear) is required.

•Ability to drive a car, and perform limited travel is required.

•Experience with Merck Safety and Environmental standards is required.

•Knowledge of instrumentation and Variable-frequency drive (VFD) programming is required.

•Merck process hazard analysis (PHA) experience is required.



Preferred Experience and Skills:

•Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment with a strong sense of urgency and ownership.

•High degree of ownership and pride in successfully completing initiatives.

•Willingness and desire to get “hands on” sometimes, jumping in, helping out, and working at any level in the organization to build understanding of the work, and collaboration with stake holders and internal customers.

•Able to think and plan through difficult situations to deliver the requirements in a manner that is compliant with aggressive safety, environmental, and quality standards.


Computer

•Knowledge of PC use and ability to use various software programs as required.

•Advanced level knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio, Outlook, etc.) required.

•Use of MS Project Professional required.

Physical

•Ability to use various hand held measuring devices.

•Ability to sit, stand and walk for up to 8 hours or more per day.

•Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a limited basis.

•Climb stairs and ladders to access equipment components.

•Ability to work at a computer to accomplish requirements above.

•Capable of working in unconditioned spaces at times.

Other

•Limited off shift work may be required to meet project, operations, and qualification needs.
