NEXPLANON / IMPLANON NXT is Merck’s next $1B brand with sales forecasted to almost double over the planning period. NEXPLANON is the fastest growing contraceptive brand in the world and on track to become the global market leader. Moreover, as a result of our company’s successful expanding of NEXPLANON access in the least developed countries in the world, NEXPLANON has transformed the lives of millions of women at greatest need for highly effective family planning services.

The Global Contraception Franchise is a passionate team that is driven to achieve significant sales ambitions but also succeeding in our mission to Empower Women to Take Charge Of Their Lives. The NEXPLANON Marketing Lead will be a core team member in driving the achievement of this mission. The successful candidate will have multifaceted responsibilities, visibility and opportunity to drive direct impact. This position is primarily responsible for leading the global commercialization strategy of NEXPLANON.

Key responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:

  • Strategy. Lead Nexplanon global brand strategy development that reflects the spirit and intention of the new GHH strategy. Embed test and learn approaches into strategy development. Develop business case, investment needs and activities that support realization of the strategy and priorities
  • Drive Broad Access Through Value Demonstration & Affordability. Our goal is to ensure women around the globe can easily access effective contraception options with no out of pocket cost. This is not the situation today in some of our priority markets, including key markets in Europe, Latin America and Asia. The successful candidate will lead global policy shaping strategies that support the provision of effective family planning services. S/he will also drive the exploring of alternative funding models that significantly broaden the number of women that will have the opportunity to access NEXPLANON.
  • Drive Depth of Prescribing Through a Patient-Focused Customer Experience. The typical user of NEXPLANON is overwhelmingly young at
  • Key Market Focus. Focus on key markets to co-develop strategies to grow NEXPLANON during all phases of the product life-cycle, from launches in several key markets, rapid early growth phase, through more mature stages of NEXPLANON growth profile
  • Product Development. Working closely with MRL, MMD and various cross-functional teams to successfully investigate and develop opportunities to further enhance the product profile of NEXPLANON with the goal of creating incremental sales growth opportunities over the next 5 to 10 years
  • Planning. Lead NEXPLANON Integrated Business Plan development, lead Global Promotional Budget development, and lead Competition Planning



Education Minimum Requirement: 

  • BA/BS. (Preferred Education: MA/MS/MBA/Ph D)
Required Experience and Skills**:
  • Minimum of 5 years of combined Sales and Marketing experience
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with experience interacting with colleagues at various levels
  • Strong strategic marketing and analytical skills
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Strategic marketing and promotional implementation experience within contraceptives, with specific Implanon/Nexplanon marketing experience an advantage
  • Strong track record of country sales and brand management, especially within the US, EU or LA
  • Understanding / experience within a key account management promotional model
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional influence role
  • Experience with medical / legal review of promotional material
  • Cross cultural flexibility and empathy
