The Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS) is an institute of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). The key research areas at the GIS include Human Genetics, Infectious Diseases, Cancer Therapeutics and Stratified Oncology, Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology, Cancer Stem Cell Biology, Genomic Technologies, Computational and Systems Biology, and Translational Technologies.

Assistant Director / Associate Director for Data Analytics Platform

Responsible for providing bioinformatics support to different projects in research computing department at GIS and work closely with biologists and IT specialists to develop bioinformatics pipelines/tools and provide custom analysis.

The individual will lead a bioinformatics supporting group and take the leadership role to support research projects. The individual may participate in Industrial Collaborations and work semi-independently. S/he may collaborate with wet-lab scientists on a per project basis (as consultants whose time is budgeted on grants) and publish results.

S/he may work with IT specialists in the development of pipelines for analyzing massive parallel sequencing data from Next Generation Sequencers. The individual should be committed to delivering bioinformatics services to web-lab scientists with a priority on customer satisfaction.


  • PhD. in Computer Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or related field required.
  • Ability to work with the following tools and technologies: Unix/Linux systems, including servers and cluster systems; Knowledge of programming languages such as Perl, Python, Java, R, C++, etc. required; 
  • Experience in using statistics in data analysis especially multivariate statistics analysis;
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills required. The individual should also have strong interest to learn new tools and technologies, and learn some biomedical language in order to communicate with biologists efficiently and understand their needs. 
  • Ability to write clear scientific reports and publications; ability to teach new tools and present the work to non-IT audiences required.
