As an Associate Director, Program Project Manager supporting delivery of IT investments to Merck Research Laboratories (MRL), you will be part of inventing tomorrow, and you will deliver solutions that save and improve lives. Specific responsibilities include:

• Be responsible for program management of IT Divisional initiatives (Research, Commercial, Manufacturing, and Corporate Support functions) to support Merck's business strategies.

• Collaborate closely with other IT groups to partner with the relevant business areas to effectively coordinate execution of strategic projects.

• Lead planning and reporting activities for these strategic activities and become the trusted advisor of the business account manager and client service leads.

• Ensure Merck technology standards compliance and pursue integration and leveraging of platform opportunities.

• Facilitate monthly portfolio review meetings to ensure open communication between program managers, the Sub-Divisional IT Leadership team, and the Sub-Divisional IT leader.

• Conduct monthly financial reviews with the Sub-Divisional IT leader.

• Ensure portfolio investment requests align to strategic roadmaps and business priorities.

• Review program execution readiness to ensure robust governance models are in place to support decision making and issue escalation.

• Review financial forecasts monthly to ensure program and portfolio spend is in line with allocations.

• Proactively review programs for threats and opportunities.

• Summarize portfolio status for monthly PMO status meetings.

• Mentor program and project managers in PMO standards and best practices.

Education Minimum Requirement:

• B.S. or higher in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields

Required Experience and Skills**:

• Strong proficiency in Global Project and Program Management, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience of IT project management guiding projects (>$1MM) from inception to close-out.

• Strong communication (written, oral, presentation), negotiation, influencing and relationship building skills.

• Competent in the use of project management and analytical software tools. Knowledge of MS Project Server and SharePoint project portfolio management processes and reporting tools.

• Experience in managing third-party vendors and development partners

• Ability to make a positive contribution as demonstrated by learning new skills and making suggestions for process/procedure improvement.

• Demonstrated ability to analyze, define, and solve business problems as well as developing business cases and advising business owners on managing risks.

• Ability to work toward enterprise goals, using influence rather than control, and fostering a work environment based on trust, sharing, and collaboration.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Solid understanding of biopharma research and development.

• Experience working in regulated environments (GxP, FDA).

• Awareness of relevant industry business, information, and technology trends.

• Ability to manage globally through complexity and ambiguity along with competing priorities.

• Ability to coach and mentor junior program and project managers.

• PMP Certification
