The Associate Director, Medical Affairs Operations (PM) position is a core function within US Medical Affairs and supports the achievement of our scientific and medical strategies.  


Specifically, the PM will support the Therapeutic Area AVP on driving operational excellence and evaluation of executional capabilities & tracking, monitoring, and reporting of key milestones within the Medical Affairs Plan (MAP). In addition the PM will develop road maps, KPI reports & monitor dashboards, oversee the MAP planning process & reviews, and provide team operational management support (Meetings, Budgets /contracts).

The PM will work across TA functional areas within USMA to manage new and existing projects aligned to the medical affairs strategies. This will involve the development and execution of strategic project plans, the identification and creation of needed resources in alignment with applicable policies and guidance documents.


In addition the PM will facilitate the use of statistical and quantitative and qualitative analyses, using   various available data, and explanatory and predictive modeling in order to inform our USMA Strategy.


Primary Activities: 

•The PM will support the TA VP on driving  operational excellence thru evaluation of key milestones within the MAP, develop reports and monitor KPI’s / Dashboards, develop and support the process for MAP updates , and provide TA related operational management (Meetings, Budgets /contracts). The PM will also support the evaluation of the TA level Impact and identify opportunities for improvement.

•Strategy Realization: Through partnership with the MASLs, help drive the process for the MAP creation ensuring input from cross functional colleagues.  Independently identifies and continually improves processes to meet strategic goals of the USMA program. Support the development of executive-level presentations that provide project status updates, and reflect progress against MAP objectives. Help create and track KPIs & dashboards.

•Data Analytics: Identify avenues to perform data analytics with the purpose of understanding the population better in order to inform our USMA Strategy and make better scientific decisions to support the value for our external stakeholders.


Additional Responsibilities:

•Facilitate creation, review and approval process of materials as the strategic operational partner of the MASL. 

•Work with MASLs and colleagues within Merck to develop comprehensive project plans for strategic initiatives, including timelines, resources, and critical path assessment, milestones, and project deliverables.

•Ensures creation and development of SL/KDM education required to support strategy. Interface with External Agencies for process optimization.

•Provide support in training and education for new  TA MSLs &HSMADs:  on-boarding 

•Engage & facilitate high level & cross-functional communications and improve TA level collaborations with internal stakeholders.

•Independently identifies and continually improves processes to meet strategic goals of the TA & USMA.

•Adheres to the compliance and regulatory procedures, working closely with Compliance and Legal.

•Actively engages with Global Medical Affairs (GMA), Legal, Compliance, Brand Teams and other functional leaders to recommend solutions and/or process improvement to enhance our Impact. 

•Functional team & USMAT meeting coordination, agenda creation, meeting notes and follow-ups

Qualifications

Education:

•Required:  BS , Preferred : MBA/MHA/MPH 

•Preferred:  Analytics & Project Management certification in Healthcare Field


Required Experience and Skills: 

•Operational & Project Management: The PM must possess project management expertise, operational capabilities, persuasive skills, and the ability to lead without direct authority over a continuum of stakeholders at varying band levels to ensure that the practice of meaningful and collaborative scientific exchange at the direction of the MASLs results in trust and value for Merck.

•Comprehensive Project Management IQ with proven competence in leading multiple projects simultaneously

•Experience in building Operational Excellence 

•Ability to understand and perform analytics 

•Minimum 5 + years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and/or Medical Affairs.  

•Compelling teamwork, collaborative and influencing skills
